Epictetus

Epictetus was a Greek Stoic philosopher born around 55 AD in Hierapolis, Phrygia, and lived until approximately 135 AD. Originally a slave, he gained his freedom and became a prominent teacher of Stoicism in Rome until the Emperor Domitian banished philosophers, prompting him to establish a school in Nicopolis, Greece. Epictetus's teachings emphasized the importance of focusing on what is within one's control and accepting what is not, a core Stoic principle.
