Fridtjof Nansen

Fridtjof Nansen was a Norwegian explorer, scientist, diplomat, and humanitarian born in 1861. He gained international fame for leading the first expedition across the Greenland interior in 1888 and for his Fram expedition to the Arctic from 1893 to 1896. Nansen was also instrumental in humanitarian efforts following World War I, including aiding displaced persons and prisoners of war, which earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1922.
