Galileo Galilei

Galileo Galilei was an Italian astronomer, physicist, and mathematician who played a pivotal role in the Scientific Revolution. Born on February 15, 1564, he is best known for his improvements to the telescope and consequent astronomical observations, which supported the heliocentric model of the solar system. Galileo's advocacy for Copernicanism led to significant conflict with the Roman Catholic Church, culminating in his trial and house arrest.
