ALEXANDER
KIELLAND
Alexander Kielland was a prominent Norwegian author and one of the leading figures of the "Modern Breakthrough" in Scandinavian literature during the late 19th century. Born on February 18, 1849, in Stavanger, Norway, he became known for his sharp social criticism and realist style. Kielland's works, including notable novels like "Garman & Worse" and "Skipper Worse," often addressed issues such as class disparity and social injustice. Despite his literary success, ill health plagued Kielland throughout his life, leading him to retire from writing relatively early. He passed away on April 6, 1906, leaving behind a legacy of influential and thought-provoking literature.
