Jonas Lie was a Norwegian author born on November 6, 1833, in Hokksund, Norway. He became a prominent figure in the late 19th-century Scandinavian literary scene and is often referred to as one of the four great Norwegian writers alongside Henrik Ibsen, Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, and Alexander Kielland. His work predominantly explored themes of family life, society, and the psychological aspects of his characters, often incorporating elements of Norwegian folklore and culture. Notable works include "The Visionary" (Den Fremsynte) and "The Family at Gilje" (Familien paa Gilje). Lie's writings significantly contributed to the naturalist and realist movements in Northern European literature.
